I've just got back from a wonderful holiday in Spain. I had intended to dust off one or two of my WIPs but that didn't happen. I was too busy being lazy.
The amounts of sign -ups for all the various exchanges still continue to daunt me. There's just so much and each sign up has its own requests and challenges to get to grips with. I shall have to sit most of them out, but pick one occasionally and get to grips with the rules for that one.
I honestly don't know how you all manage to keep track.
I still enjoy reading all the offerings, though

This was a long anticipated event for me and it didn't fail to deliver. I was gifted a brilliant story, Not So Black and White by Jainafel . Set in the Malayan Emergency this was an action-packed story in which Biggles meets with an old friend. I love this. It also had the unintended consequence of bringing back memories of stories told to me by my then husband, who was serving in Malaya at the time the story was set. This wasn't a bad thing, but I most definitely feel my age now.

Real life being what it is, I could only manage one story...Algy Lays A Ghost for wateroverstone set after Terai, in which Algy has some demons to struggle with. Hopes of being able to dash off a couple of gifts were dashed by time constraints, but I have been working my way through this magnificent collection avidly.

I am considering signing up for the latest fiab, as I think it's about time I dusted off my brain and perhaps do something with the many WIPs I have lurking. But I notice there are other Challenges going on too and am wondering how on earth do you all manage to keep up with them all? There's all the prompts and requests to work through , my head would probably be spinning from now until Doomsday.

But as I am going on holiday shortly and should have more time, not to mention a more relaxed attitude to life for a short while, I might dive in and see what comes of it. I doubt if I'll ever be as prolific as a lot of you seem to be, though.

I'm not very good at making journal entries of any kind,which is why you'll seldom see me on here, although I do enjoy reading what everyone else has to say.

I chat regularly with Wateroverstone and BlackBentley and my foray into AI Chat is entirely down to them.

One night, during a three way conversation we were playing with ChatGPT when it became clear it didn't have the correct information for the book 'Biggles Looks Back', describing it as a collection of short stories. I told Chat it was inaccurate and sent it a synopsis of the book. It eventually admitted it was wrong. Unfortunately, it is not self-learning, as it still repeats the same mistake when asked. Here, the human element is definitely the more intelligent.

It did come up with some hilarious prompts though, including a Decapod that lives in the jungle and has claws on the end of its tentacles which can open an aircraft like a sardine tin. I definitely wouldn't have thought that one up.

I always enjoy Wateroverstone's Story Challenges on the Biggles Forum but this year proved to be rather difficult, Real Life throwing a lot of stuff at me and Long Covid seeming to upset my concentration and thought processes. (Writers block?) I was very glad of the week's extension and yesterday I had a breakthrough. Everything became suddenly clear and I was able to rattle off a reasonable story. Not quite a long as I would have liked, but I was happy to have been able to produce something.

I might make something of that tin opening Decapod yet!

The story reveal of the 26 stories presented in this challenge provided me with an evening’s worth of excellent entertainment. The variety of subjects was amazing. Explicit or Gen, ships of either / or & , many characters or only two , every single one was a gem. I have read everything once and will now go through at my leisure and comment on them all.

Somehow, my comments always seem woefully inadequate, and doesn’t seem to do justice to the hard work everyone has put in, but truly, I have enjoyed every single one.

Somehow, a one eyed snowman built by an Algy under some emotional stress is a very touching thing. It’s not perfect, but then life never is. A great little tale.

I want to thank Sholio too, for organising this. There’s no such thing as too much Biggles and the boys.
